Character-oriented translation is a character-at-a-time translation from a source language to a target one based on a dictionary of meanings.
This translation allows one to match particular character combinations (hieroglyphs in case of Chinese) to concrete translation.
It is applicable to names, descriptions, and configurations of items.
Character-oriented translation proves its worth if
A source language uses an alphabet any symbol of which can designate a word or combination of words (Chinese language answers to this description)
There is no automatic translator to a target language
There is a need to correct automatic translation
Character-oriented translation must be in accord with the following format:
(key) character or character combinations in the source language
(delimiter) tabulation shift-in, semicolon, etc.
(meaning) translation of the key into a target language
For example, a text file might look like the following:
紅色; red
藍色; blue
…
Consequently, in excel it is possible to leave out a delimiter. The key and meaning can be placed in adjacent columns.
A file name for character-oriented translation might look like this: example.com_ch-ru_2.3.txt
where
example.com – the name of your website
ch – source language
ru – target language
2.3 – file number and/or file version (2 file for translation, 3 - edition)
